How the league works

Get a team. Show up at game time. Swing.

Leagues of six teams play one game at each game time: 3:00, 5:00 and 7:00 PM Eastern. Between game times every diamond is open for free play.

  1. Get a team

    Pick two words and a jersey colour, the league adds a number: "Golden Otters 42". That made-up name is all anyone sees.

  2. Join a league

    Your league starts at the next game time. Empty spots go to house teams the computer runs. Five games, one at each game time.

  3. Bat in 3-D

    Step into the box at the diamond, time your swing and run up the score. The server replays every swing and keeps its own score, so nobody can just send in a score.

A league that started in a sporting-goods store basement

The Garfield Heights Baseball League began with meetings of fathers and local business owners in the winter of 1951. At its peak, its own history page said, nearly 1,500 boys played on more than 90 teams across nine fields. The last season its website announced was 2017.

The fields are quiet now. The league's name, and its address, ghbl.us, carry on here as an online league anyone can join.

Made to be safe for kids

Children play here, so there is nothing to type and nothing personal to give. The rules for grown-ups are on one plain page.

What we never ask for

  • No names, emails, phone numbers, birthdays or photos.
  • No chat, no messages and no text box anywhere: team names come from word lists.
  • One security cookie. The banner ad on some pages sets no cookie and does not track anyone, and never appears in the game.
  • A private team link instead of an account. Delete the team any time.
